While I am shooting in my hometown of Kansas City, the president of Cancer Action, the organization my mother poured herself into and ran for years, called to see if I could do an interview for them. I didn’t hesitate for a moment.
I learned so many valuable lessons while watching my mom run Cancer Action: unconditional love, patience, ingenuity and innovation. She created the first smoking withdrawal clinics in the country, built the organization to over 500 volunteers, and manifested city and state awareness for cancer and those challenged by it. She was adored by everyone.
I often thank her from my heart for modeling true love and compassion to all she met and cared for. I can truly say I feel that way about our own community. Thanks, Mommy. You taught me well.
Blessings,
DEE
