There is a reason that one of the principles our constitution is based on is separation of church and state. Politics is a religion of its own, with different doctrines according to which party you belong to.
But there are around 42,000 different religions, all with different beliefs and agendas. How can a country create a way to govern addressing all these religions? Impossible! And many have very different belief systems. If church and state are one, who do we confess to? (a little humor.)
The reason for separation of church and state is that there must, in a civilized society, be rules that apply to all. And one of those rules and rights is the freedom to worship as you choose. Thus, there must be separation that allows that choice.
The constitution has served us well for 235 years. Yes, as times progressed there have been needed changes. But the core values contained within need to be protected and enforced. We are, and always will be, a country FOR the people, OF the people and BY the people. So help us God.
Blessings,
DEE
